Nursing education: Communication for EOL care with children
Description
In this four module synchronous/asynchronous course, Profant and I develop instructional and learning materials and activities to teach University of Tennessee at Knoxville nursing students about a little known grant meant to help patients navigate pediatric end-of-life care. The course aims to provide nurses with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to communicate effectively about pediatric EOL care in order to improve health outcomes. Assessments are aligned to objectives and outcomes, and include self-assessments as well as simulation-based assessments. We created a Kirkpatrick table with tasks for short and long-term evaluation of the course.

Rationale
Profant and I demonstrate skill and talent in planning, developing, re-envisioning, revising, and designing a full learning experience with aligned objectives and outcomes to learning activities and teaching strategies based on the best theoretical foundations such as cognitive load theory applicable to the kind of professional learning for the targeted student population. We demonstrate skill in creating and using assessment that reinforces learning and performance. This project also shows our skill at many of the significant parts of Instructional Design–Learner Analysis, Context Analysis, and Instructional Treatment.
